The Brief

Kairo is an independent typeface studio run by two designers out of Lisbon. They wanted a home for their work that felt less like a shop and more like a reading room.

No carousels. No auto-playing specimens. Just the letters, breathing.

Ch. 01

A quieter specimen

We began by stripping the expected: no hero video, no scroll-hijacked reveals. Each typeface gets a long page — history, intent, and live text you can shape yourself.

The index reads top-to-bottom like a table of contents in a slim catalogue, setting expectations the rest of the site keeps.

Ch. 02

Letters, first

Every page treats the typeface itself as the primary interface. Weight sliders, opentype toggles, and a plain text field — nothing between you and the letters.

We wrote a small tester component that respects the typeface's own metrics so glyphs never sit on a mismatched baseline.

Ch. 03

Shipping, slowly

Commerce is deliberately unglamorous: one page, three licenses, a single button. The checkout lives on their existing platform — we just made sure the handoff felt like the same voice.

It's the first time a site has made our work look the way we hear it in our heads.
